Dawn (a work in progress)

Pictured above: Frensham Little Ponds UK, the view from my tent on the last morning on the walk.

I’ve started many projects in the past – some have reached the point of conclusion, others have failed. But what I have learnt in the process of all of them, is that there is always something to take away.

I think back to when I attempted a walk from London to Land’s End, in which I lasted only 4 days in. The route was sound, as were my intentions, however, I had overpacked my bag, bought narrow shoes that rubbed and gave myself 20 miles to walk per day.

The reason why this failed, was my preparation – that’s all. However the freedom I felt on the walk, and the opportunities I got to speak to locals passing by, or the quiet peace of mind I felt resting in the forests made it all worth it.

On the last day, I woke up in Frensham and walked all the way to Liss, along country roads, across military terrain with gunfire and bomb warnings all around, and eventually on my first steps on Wainwrights Way. The rain began to lash down on me as I got to Liss a 5pm, I still had miles to go to get up onto the Southern Downs.

I gave up. I’ll go into more detail on this trip another time, but at this stage, I can still look back on my efforts and say I tried.

And now, looking forward, and starting a course at the London School of Journalism to study Freelance Writer and Travel Journalism, I can say that I’m happy to be trying something new – after all, life would be pretty dull by just treading water.

The blog now will become a documentation of my travelling journals, past, present and future – perhaps with a potential poem thrown in (maybe not), thank you for being with me on this path so far, and I hope you like the blog’s new look and the path I’m now on.
