So another year done, and another 28 new plays typed up. It was a tough one this year, but a necessary challenge and a bit of escapism. With what’s going on outside, I think we all needed some sort of distraction from it all, whether it be a new job, a challenge, or even a new hobby – something to distract, something to keep us going.
So February’s challenge is done – a blast from the past, and I’m happy with most of the results from this time. I do wonder what is next for me. Time will tell.
Anyway, as is tradition here are the pieces (in my opinion) ranked, they are ranked on their potential to be good plays along with characters, events or concept:
- In The Clear (7)
- The Defence (9)
- Aquaphobia (18)
- โอกาส (Chance)(20)
- They Grow Up So Fast (24)
- Love Language (24)
- The Plain (26)
- idol. (28)
- Small Man Trapped In A Box (30
- Crescendo (30)
- Quick-Fired (32)
- From Dubai With Love, Pride and Envy (34)
- Marooned. (37)
- Elephant In The Room (38)
- Year Of The Ox (41)
- Cocking It Up (47)
- An Offer You Can Refuse (49)
- Last Recording (50)
- Saint (53)
- What You Can’t See (54)
- Bojo and The Magic Money Seed (56)
- Two Men Exit The Bar (67)
- Last Round (68)
- Their Distractions (68)
- No Fish (70)
- Unsaid (71)
- Take The Note (75)
- You Only Get What You Give And What You Get You Won’t Want (82)
So there we are. The results were added up and tallied (in a golf format), considering which was the Best Written (Aquaphobia), Best Concept (The Defence) and which had the most potential to be turned in a play, short film, etc, so Best Potential (In The Clear).
The worst were as follows: Worst Written (Year of The Ox), Worst Concept (Last Round) and Least Potential (You Only Get What You Give and What You Get You Won’t Want). Year of th Ox, for example, was hardly written, but it could be a great piece, it’s got a lot of potential. Unfortunately, some I love came quite low, but the ones I really fucking loved are obviously top.
So there is a more comphrensive list, I’ve also attached the PDF link to each of the entries if you click on them for easy access.
Thanks for joining me for another wild year!
