Wow, and I mean wow.
Last night, I tried writing with wine, like I used to, and I really hated it, I mean it, nothing flowed, nothing went anywhere. And today, jesus Christ. Today we were tasked with writing a Greek Tragedy, with only 3 characters (+ a Chorus), with songs, all in verse ideally, AND it had to be set in the modern word.
Yeah, it’s a tought one, and if it weren’t for studying Greek Theatre in school, I’d be screwed. I’ve read Sophocles (Antigone, Electra etc), Aristophanes and a lot of Homer (okay so not plays, but you get the idea). So I knew tragedy well, but how the hell were we supposed to set it today, without all the muder? Without the gods?
I had the idea, of setting it in the aftermath of Sheridan Shea’s interview on This Moring (she’s the influencer who claimed she was an essential worker), you need a hero, you need a tyrant and you need a betrayal. You also need themes of family, love, war and GODS. What better gods to have then the modern ones? FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM TIKTOK!
I had it all in front of me, and I accidentally wrote too much: It’s 21 pages.
I’m going to try posting the whole thing here rather than the link, so here you are:
Here is the original format too: 6. From Dubai With Love, Pride and Envy
