‘Saint’ – Challenge 3.1

So we’re back. 4 years on we are back writing plays and my god. It hasn’t got any easier. The last time I was writing I’d slam a bottle of wine and a couple of cans for each piece, and sleep at 5.

It’s a little

harder writing sober I must admit. This first piece, ‘Saint’ is a response to the first brief of the new challenge. We were tasked to write about ‘the past’, nothing in the future and nothing in the present. So for me, I thought of my experiences with St Patricks Day. Every year something exciting happens, it’s such a great feeling. So I wanted to play around with a bit of time travel.

We focus on Wayne, who’s a junior reporter. We travel through different years of his life, in the hopes that things will get better. But with each St Patricks Day we visit, we are promised one thing and are given another.

A little rough and a little fast paced. I would love the dialogue to have more flesh to it, but THAT IS NOT THE EXERCISE. I’ve gotta remember that, we are not writing finished products. We are merely creating the first draft to 28 sparkling new pieces.

Fortunately I clicked with this brief, it may happen where I’ll be frustrated (much like last time). Well hear it is. See you tomorrow.
